12 Ways to Shine Brightly 🌟

First, let’s establish this. All matter is made up of atoms. Scientists who study quantum physics believe that all matter is energy- that atoms themselves are nothing more than constantly swirling fields of electric energy. Which means that everything around us is made up of energy. Think- a chair. While it may appear solid and un-moving to us, it actually comprise tiny atoms endlessly spinning and vibrating in a tornado of energy. The chair has no actual physical structure, because atoms are not made of physical things. The structure of the atom itself is an invisible field of energy.

Mind boggling isn’t it?

Which leads to the natural conclusion that we, too, are made of energy.

So what am I trying to drive at? In order to shine brightly, we need to know how to elevate our energy. Like it or not, we all emit energy, and our energy affects those around us. Think about it- don’t we all know someone who can “change the energy” in a room just by walking in? And somehow we can sense whether the person is a positive or negative person simply by the energy/vibes they give off.

Now that we understand this, let us learn some ways we can elevate our energy, such that we are constantly able to shine brightly and attract more positivity into our lives.

1. The Importance of Art

Art shifts our energy. Art opens us up to new ideas, new possibilities, new energy. Works of art hold and impart a very special energy even centuries after their creation. Music and the visual arts can heal and restore people in ways that not even medicine can.  Consider how we feel when we listen to a song that moves us. The mere act of listening shifts our energy.

I never understood why people would spend so much on an art piece nor appreciated a visit to the art museum- but now it makes sense- when art speaks to you, it can shift your energy, and create a powerful link of ideas, exploration and beauty.

Try it for yourself. Try it when you are feeling down. Go to a museum, or a movie, or a play. Sing a song or read a poem. Open yourself up to the vitality and brilliance of the exchange and feel your energy shift.

2. Gratitude

We all comprise energy and give off energy. The two highest and purest vibrations we can achieve as human beings are love and gratitude. The simple experience of feeling gratitude shifts our energy, it sounds simple, because it is.

So give it a try. Make a gratitude list. Start with one thing a day. Then keep going. Write down something new every day. Remember the 21-day rule, jot down your daily gratitude list and make it a habit.

The Joy of Missing Out

I am guilty of FOMO (fear of missing out), and always find myself endlessly chasing the next big thing, the next event…it gets tiring, it gets draining, and at the end of the day, nothing real gets done.

If you are like me, I hope this catchy poem by Jay Shetty will help put things into perspective. Instead of trying to keep up with the world, it is time to embrace JOMO (joy of missing out), time to slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and invest in our vision.

Give yourself permission to invest in your vision
Give yourself permission to put down your phone
Give yourself permission to invest in your mission
Give yourself permission to stay inside on your own
It’s what we call the joy of missing out
Trading fear for joy is what its all about
So when the world is attracted to that latest temptation
You focus on inner peace and self realization
When everyone around you is trying to see it
Trying to have it
Trying to do it
You know you just won’t go through it
It’s like trying to feed a beast
A hunger inside you that never ceases
Instead you enjoy the loneliness
The meaning in your emptiness
You find the answers on your shelf
with others and with yourself
Without a regret without a doubt
it’s called the joy, of missing outContinue reading “The Joy of Missing Out”

The Courage to Be Disliked

the_courage_to_be_disliked_1539603567_3bd9f26a.jpg

It has been a long time since I read a book which I can’t put down. The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga is one such book.

This book is creatively written in dialogue form, following a youth’s quest for the truth about life. Through conversations the youth has with the philosopher, readers get introduced to the world of Adlerian Psychology.

Alfred Adler is the man behind Adler Psychology. Interestingly, he was one of the three giants of nineteenth century psychology alongside Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, and yet before this book, I never came across Adler and his theories. What I like about Adler’s theory is that it is a combination of philosophy, psychology, Buddhism and Stoicism.

Adler’s theories are simple yet profound, and at the same time empowering.

As a summary, here’s some of the main concepts I have gleaned from the book.Continue reading “The Courage to Be Disliked”

5 Lunch Places in CDB with Wholesome Vegetarian Food

As a veggie-loving person, I am always on a look out for good vegetarian food places around. Some of you may have the misconception that vegetarian food= healthy. It is not entirely true. There are many vegetarian places that serve deep fried food, laden with msg, oil, salt and processed stuff. These are sometimes even more unhealthy than the meat versions.

For me, I gravitate towards places which serve good quality wholesome food. Here are my top finds for lunch in the Central Business District area if you are into clean eating:

1. Healthy IKI Soba

If you are a fan of soba, this is a place you need to check out. Their soba is freshly made daily with buckwheat flour and you can really taste the freshness of the noodles. I particularly like the cold soba. The chef is Japanese and I often see Japanese eating there-another assurance of its quality.

They serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Do note that the standard dipping sauce is made of fish stock and hence you will need to let them know if you want the vegetarian option.

This is the typical option I like to go for- Cold Soba (Mori Soba) with Dou Miao and Daikon (white radish). It is really refreshing and guilt-free!

img_7023.jpg

They also have a set meal which you can go for. It is pretty worth it.

2. ETL X quantum food lab

I chanced upon this small cozy unassuming stall one day whilst I was looking for a nice place for lunch. This place caught my eye. They serve healthy soup, and all their vegetables has been thoroughly washed to remove any pesticides.

img_7331

Here’s their menu. You have a choice of the type of noodles/rice you want.

There is only one dish that is vegetarian, the Herbal Forest Soup, and this is what I usually have. I like it with homemade noodles. I enjoyed the soup very much. It tasted very nourishing and like its brewed for many hours with yellow soybean. It does not contain any msg. This is a place I will go back to for some comfy home-cooked style food.

3. Simple Lifestyle Healthy Vegetarian Cafe

This is another place which serves very yummy home-cooked style food located at Oxley Tower. Every day, the dishes are different so you will never get bored. Usually you will have rice with a few ingredients and a soup. There is only one choice a day and every one eats the same thing so you do not have to think about what to order. The food is also affordable for CBD area, usually costing between $5-$6. A hidden gem in the CBD. A must-try!

I have brought a few friends there before and all of them enjoyed the meal. However, do note the space there is very small and so expect to squeeze with the crowd.

Before you head down, it would be good to check out their Facebook to ensure they are open as they sometimes go on long breaks.

4. The Salad Corner

The Salad Corner is another place not to be missed for a healthy quick bite if you are in the CBD area. They offer takeaway only. Their portions are generous and ingredients used are fresh. Prices start from $5.90. A good haunt for the health-conscious, budget-wary and time-tight working executive. Definitely worth the buck!

img_6091

As you can see, I love Kelp. You can also see how generous they are with their servings. They offer a huge variety of ingredients, from Kale to Mixed Cabbage. They also offer warm salads if you prefer your food warm. You can refer to the menu below for more information.

5. GreenDot

I guess most of you should be familiar with Greendot. To me, it is like a vegetarian fast food chain, sprouting out everywhere. They have Bento rice sets and noodles. The food is generally good.

The food is so tasty that I had a friend who didn’t realise Greendot was vegetarian. This is a good place to visit if you are eating with friends who are meat-eaters as the food is very flavorful.

Review- Oh So Health! Fruit Crisps

As a health conscious foodie, I am always on a look-out for healthy guilt-free snacks to munch on. Today, I came across this fruit crisps from Oh So Health! at Watson’s. It’s attractive packaging attracted me and every aspect of the packaging was screaming, ‘Buy me! Buy me!’

I succumbed to temptation and joined the queue to purchase it. It was not exactly cheap. It cost me $3.50 for 40g.

Looks so good right!

You can’t go wrong with Guava. And I was looking forward to sampling the various fruit crisps, Guava, Purple Yam and Banana.

I finally made my purchase and immediately started ripping the package apart. I was eager to try out my new snack.

And I looked into the package…

Wait…what?? I did a double-take. It looked like dried cuttlefish.

I was expecting the contents of the package to be as colorful as the packaging itself.

This is marketing at it best.

I was a little disappointed. It looks highly processed- not something one would call healthy. It was a blend of the different fruits and not dehydrated versions of the different fruits.

Maybe it will taste better than it looks. I decided to give it a try.

It tasted of a blend of fruits- but a tad too sweet. It was like eating fruity sugar crisps. If you are looking for healthy snacks, I would not recommend this.

I would say it was a disappointing purchase. BUT not all is bad. At least I got to share it with you guys, and also got reminded of the following-

    • For snacks, try to go for whole food that are natural, not found in packaging. As long as it is in a packaging like the above, it is already highly processed. Try to avoid those.
    • If you have to buy packaged food, study the label carefully -for the above snack, it actually contained additional coconut sugar. While coconut sugar is supposed to be healthier, it is still sugar, and if added to fruits, it will be too sweet.
    • The ingredients list should ideally have 5 or less ingredients. If not, it is just too much unhealthy stuff. Think of the ingredients list of a typical loaf of bread you get in the supermarket vs a bakery. Both are bread, but based on the ingredients list, you can tell which is of better quality.

Image result for gardenia bread ingredients
Supermarket bread- 14 ingredients

Image result for bakery bread ingredients label
Bakery bread- 5 ingredients

    • The first ingredient listed in the ingredient list makes up the largest proportion of the food. If the first or second ingredient is sugar/fructose/sucrose/glucose etc. anything that is unhealthy, try to avoid it.
    • Do not judge a book by it’s cover 🙂

And my quest for healthy snacks continues…

What Can’t You Let Go Of?

carefree child childhood countryside

Our society today is more ill than ever, with mental illnesses on the rise. A huge part of it comes from the fact that many of us still hold on to mental and emotional baggage. We may not be aware that we have it, or it could also be that we refuse to let go because the thought of holding on still serves us in some way.

It is time we recognize that what you can’t let go of is often the thing that has the most power over you. And yes, it is also the thing you will have to let go of the most.

Let’s delve in with this beautifully written poem to shed light on letting go.

“To Let Go does not mean to stop caring,
it means I can’t do it for someone else.

To Let Go is not to cut myself off,
it is the realization I can’t control another.

To Let Go is not to enable,
but to allow learning from natural consequences.

To Let Go is to admit powerlessness,
which means the outcome is not in my hands.

To Let Go is not to try to change or blame another,
it is to make the most of myself.

To Let Go is not to care for,
but to care about.

To Let Go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.

To Let Go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.

To Let Go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their destinies.

To Let Go is not to be protective,
it is to permit another to face reality.

To Let Go is not to deny,
but to accept.

To Let Go is not to nag, scold, or argue,
but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them.

To Let Go is not to adjust everything to my desires,
but to take each day as it comes, and cherish myself in it.

To Let Go is not to criticize and regulate anybody,
but to try to become what I dream I can be.

To Let Go is not to regret the past,
but to grow and live for the future.

To Let Go is to fear less, and love more.”

– Author Unknown

It took me many hard knocks, painful lessons, wasted time, to finally learnt the art of letting go. Over time, I’ve learnt that stubbornly holding on to something that you know is not working out, resisting the flow, will cause more harm to yourself than good. And the bad news is, eventually, you still have to let go.When I finally decided to let go of what was not serving me, I gained my energy and power back in my life.

Looking back, I wished I had let go much earlier.  However, it’s never too late. Here’s how you can start. Shed light on what you can’t let go of and make a conscious effort to dissociate yourself from that. Sometimes it just take an act of courage.

What You Need to Let Go Of

  • A toxic relationship that brings you more sadness than happiness
  • A limiting belief about yourself
  • The false self
  • A fixed mindset (try having a growth mindset instead)
  • A preconceived judgment
  • Negative people in your life
  • A job which no longer inspires you
  • Negativity
  • Laziness
  • Procrastination
  • Self-doubt
  • EntitlementAny more? Do share your ideas in the comments box below!

Start Letting Go

Ready to let go of something that is no longer serving you?

These are prompters to help you be on the way. Take some time, find a cozy corner, grab a journal and a pen, and let’s begin.

It refers to the thing, object, person, memory, thought, mindset etc. which you would like to let go of.

  • Acknowledge how it has served you in the past/ the good times
  • Say what you want to say to it (if it is a person you are trying to let go of you don’t have to say it to them, just jot it down)
  • Recognize what you wished it had been
  • Thank the good times and bad times
  • Reflect on the lessons learnt from the experience
  • Reflect on what you would focus on instead
  • Let go and move it

Letting go is not easy. It takes courage. However, once you are able to let go, you will soar and life will flow again for you.

Health Oasis Detox Retreat

img_5497

Having heard of the benefits and wonders of detox, I go for a detox retreat with my mum. The place I chose was the Health Oasis Detox Retreat at Koh Samui, Thailand. Several of my friends had gone and shared many good reviews about it. Apparently it was also one of the more affordable detox retreats around. I was excited to experience the effects of detox for myself. My mum was keen on weight loss and hence was motivated to go.

What is Detox?

Detox involves fasting and helps to cleanse the body. Fasting is a form of healing and its main focal point is that when eating stops, the body shifts into a state of detoxification. Cells start releasing unwanted toxic material into the bloodstream with the intention to eliminate it via the elimination organs – colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, skin and the lymphatic system.

Why Detox?

People go for Detox for many reasons. The most common one is for weight loss or when they are trying to recover from health issues e.g. heart problems, eczema, high blood pressure. However other than that, it is also a form of self-care where you allow your body to stop working so hard for a period of time so it can begin the cleansing process. Think about it- most of us have 3 meals a day, there is little time where the body gets to rest and is not digesting any food.

Not only does detox help with physical cleansing, it helps with mental and emotional cleansing as well. I have heard stories of how sometimes during the retreat, people become easily agitated all of the sudden. It is usually because suppressed emotions are coming to the surface and it is a good thing.

Getting there

The resort is located about a 30 min drive from Koh Samui airport. Flights to Koh Samui from Singapore are generally more expensive (between $400-$500) due to the high airport tax at Koh Samui airport.

We booked a cab through Klook and apparently it is supposed to be cheaper. It cost us about S$20 to Maenam, I would recommend booking your transport through this app as it is fuss-free and your driver will be waiting at the airport for you once you arrive.

About the Resort

img_3564

The resort is located beside the beach. It is a beautiful and tranquil place as you can see from my pictures. I went for the Nurture package- which was the cheapest package that involves a liver flush.

The Nurture package also included a daily massage. You can choose whatever massage you want each day- and it was quite good. For Nuture package, Cellulite massage is not included and requires a top-up.

img_4102

How does the Retreat Work?

The retreat is rather flexible as you get to decide the number of days you would like to go for. I chose 7 days. I would recommend you to go for a minimum of 7 days to allow your body to fully start detoxifying.

During the duration of your retreat, you will be on a juice fast. Hence don’t expect to eat any solid food. There will also be some light vegetarian broth provided which you can have as much as you like. The juices are also diluted, hence you do not have worry about consuming too much fructose. Juices there include- pineapple juice, watermelon juice, tamarind juice, cucumber juice and beetroot juice.

img_3512

You may be wondering what’s Bentonite. Bentonite is a form of clay which sticks to toxins in your body and as it cannot get absorbed, it will be eliminated from the system. 5 times a day we will have to drink a Psyllium Bentonite Shake. This is our main meal and it keeps us full as psyllium will expand in our stomach.

Psyllium husk acts as a broom to brush out any unwanted stuff from your body. It does not get absorbed by the body and contains zero calories. I would recommend everyone to give it a try. Do drink it fast as it expand really quickly into a gel-like substance very quickly.

img_3620

We were also given supplements to take in place of our daily meals. This is to ensure our body will still get the necessary minerals and nutrients it needs. The resort takes great care in ensuring guests have a really comfortable stay and I have to commend the staff for being so professional and attentive.

img_5498

If you are curious, here’s a sample of the daily timetable.

img_3563

The Process

8d9ac113-c7ef-4b3f-86b8-5bf9c16b3740

We were warned that during detox, we may end up feeling lethargic and experience mood swings as our body will not be used to the food deprivation.

The first day, we were given laxatives (oxygen magnesium powder) to clear out the food we ate over the past few days. I went to the toilet for about 6 times and experienced a slight headache.

The full course will begin the next day.

I was a little worried as I did not know whether my body will be able to take 7 days without food. I was worried I will faint or suffer from low blood sugar.

Day 2

img_3740

I felt better on the second day. I was still trying to get used to the fact that there would be no food. The first ‘meal’ was at 7 am, where a staff deliver the first Psyllium Bentonite shake to our room. And then we will wake up to do our dry brushing and then daily yoga class at 8.30 am. I really enjoy going yoga classes as the teacher, Sakda, is really good.

And then it felt weird. There was nothing to look forward to. Usually I would be planning what to eat for lunch, dinner, and as a foodie, meal times are what I look forward to. Without my meal times as reference, I felt a little lost.

The Hero’s Journey

Every evening, there will also be a conscious movie screened in the movie room. During my time there, I watched a documentary on the Hero’s Journey by Joseph Campbell. It was thought-provoking and I thought to share some of my takeaways here.

“People are looking more for meaning of life …feeling of being alive.”
-Joseph Campbell

He spoke about how a good movie usually follows the different stages of a hero’s journey-  from separation, initiation, to return. There is always a call to adventure, trials and ordeals, obstacles, facing yourself, acquiring the quality and hidden strength. Ultimately, we need to find our own path and our bliss because no one path is the same. His advice? Do what makes you feel alive. I found the documentary really thought-provoking and it inspired me to write my story- the Girl in the Mirror.

My Colonic Experience

If you saw the daily schedule earlier, you may come across an item on Colonics. To me, this is one of the highlights. If you are still wondering what it is all about, the photo below may give you a little more insight.

img_5499

Yes, it is a self-administered colonics or enema set. It involves gently allowing water to flow into your rear end, and flushing out the stuck waste and toxins from your body.  You can check out my video all the way at the bottom of the post to have a closer look at how it works.

Did you know that most illnesses begin in the gut? If we keep our gut clean, we will be able to lead a happy and healthy life.

“In the 50 years I have spent helping people to overcome illness, disability and disease, it has become crystal clear that poor bowel management lies at the root of most people’s health problems”

-Dr. Bernard Jensen

I was a little nervous when I administered my first colonics as I was afraid the water may overflow and cause my large intestines to burst. However, interestingly, our body has a way to manage itself, and when there is too much water, you can just relax and the water will flow out. It feels like sh*tting. During the course of my stay, colonics treatment alternated between one time or two times each day.

I enjoyed my colonics experience. I felt so much lighter and clear-headed after one session. I was surprised at the amount of waste that still came out from my body even though I had not eaten for a few days. Even though it may sound disgusting, I would encourage all of you to give it a try- its really good!

Unfortunately, there are no clinics or centres that do colonics in Singapore due to regulations. There are some good clinics in Johor or Kuala Lumper if you would like to give it a go.

Other Programmes

Most of the time, we stayed at the resort (the resort also offers motorcycle rental at a small fee if you are keen to explore the island). As we do not ride, we took part in their island tour (for a fee). It was a comfortable way to experience the island. They also packed our supplements and juices for us so we can continue to follow the schedule even though we were out. It was not easy and as there were a lot of tempting street food along the way.

img_3786

One interesting place I went to was the Mummified Monk Temple. The monk was renowned for his meditation practice and when he died in 1973, his body did not decompose. We were able to see his upright body in the temple. You can read more below.

img_3889

img_3885They used sunglasses to cover his eyes.

Liver Flush + Final Day

The second last day was the liver flush day and we had a different diet. We were allowed to drink 2 full-strength juices. We also had to drink Epsom Salt + Grapefruit and Olive Oil juice to flush out the bile stones from our liver. It was a weird combination but tasted alright.

I would recommend everyone to go for the liver flush as after your body has detoxified for so many days, it will be an additional boost to do a final cleanse to the liver.

For me, I had many tiny bile stones that were flushed out as a result.

img_4047
That’s the gleeful me about to sink my teeth into my first solid food of the entire 7 days

img_4049
The ingredients were really fresh and it is the best raw spring roll I have ever tasted! (I may be biased since I have not eaten for so many days, my senses were sharpened)

img_5496

After-thoughts

img_4059

I am really thankful for the experience. I was surprised I was able to ‘survive’ not eating for seven days. It was a breakthrough for me. I also felt a lot more clear-minded. I would recommend anyone to go for detox at least once in your life. Experience the process for yourself.

My mum lost 3 kg. While losing weight is one thing, what is more important is the deeper understanding about how we eat affects how we feel and our body. My mother became more aware of what she consumes.

I also like that the place provides a space for healing work and reconnecting to self. There are people I met who stayed there for more than a month. It’s crazy to think how they can go on for so many days without food. During my time there I also got to experience other healing methods such as Bach Flower Technique, Reiki, Tapping etc which was available for us at an additional cost. It was a good exposure to the world of alternative healing.

The retreat also had other facilities such as the swimming pool, sauna, ozone therapy.

As what BK Shivani said, the quality of every human being is peace, purity, love, power, knowledge, bliss. As you cleanse and purify yourself, it will lead you closer to your truth.

For the curious, I have also created a vlog on my experience. This is my first attempt at a travel vlog so do give me your feedback 🙂

Daehwa Vegetarian Restaurant

img_7076-1

I had chanced upon this place while walking along Fusionpolis some time back and had made a mental note to give it a try. Hence when the opportunity arose and we were looking for a place for Mother’s Day celebrations, I decided to suggest Daehwa to my family.

What’s so special about this place is that the menu is vegetarian. This is pretty rare for a Korean restaurant as Koreans are known to love to use meat in their dishes and often as a vegan-wannabe*, it is often hard for me to find non-meat dishes in typical Korean joints.

It was my family’s first time trying Korean vegetarian food and they were quite hesitant to try it as they were afraid the food would be bland. Nonetheless, after some persuading they decided to give it a go.

*I am still in the midst of transitioning to a Vegan lifestyle.

The Meal

We did not make any reservations as we thought that the location + vegetarian food, would not attract much crowds. However we were wrong. When we arrived at 5.30 pm, we were told that all seats were fully reserved. If we would like a table, we would have to finish our meal by 6.30 pm as that would be when the next reservation is.

We had no choice but to agree. If you are planning to head down, it is highly recommended to make a reservation to be safe.

We ordered a total of 5 mains and 4 sides. Ordering was a breeze as everything was vegetarian, there was no need to watch out for dietary restrictions. It was interesting as there was a QR code we could scan and order directly via our mobile.

img_7079.jpg

The menu was pretty extensive and had a wide selection. After ordering, we waited for about 10 min before all the food came at one go. It was a lot of food!

img_7080
They provided 3 side dishes- White Radish, Mash Potato and Spicy Zucchini

The first dish that came was the Truffle Cheese Fries. I was impressed by the generous amount of Parmesan Shavings and Truffle. The fries were still hot and crispy. It was really yummy! I would definitely order this dish again when I am back.

img_7082
Truffle Cheese Gamja Twigim 트뤼플치즈감자튀김 – $12

The next dish was the Korean Ginseng “Chicken”. I was curious to try how the soup would taste like without the chicken. And the description sounded pretty nourishing.

Oops, no chicken? Fret not! We have kept the deep flavors of the Ginseng soup so please let the wise aged Ginseng supplement your lost energy from your day of hard work and replenish your stamina.

I enjoyed the soup. It had the taste of Ginseng and had a tinge of sweetness. There was also different kinds of mushrooms, dates, Goji berries, tofu and water chestnut in this dish.

img_7085Samgyetang 삼계탕 – $15

The next one was Steamed Egg. The Egg was very fluffy. It is the total opposite of the Chawanmushi, the Japanese version of steamed egg, which is smooth and dense. This dish was not bad.

img_7086
Ttukbaegi Gyrranjjim 뚝배기계란찜 – $9

The Bibimbap was really colourful with different types of vegetables and the rice used was purple Japanese rice which made it even more nutritious. There was also no egg used in this dish which makes it suitable for vegans. The Bibimbap was my brother’s favourite dish.

This is the Tofu stew. I really enjoyed this dish as well as I like to drink soup, and it is tough to find Korean soups that is vegetarian. It was spicy but not too spicy. It comes with a rice and would be good as a standalone dish for one if you are visiting the restaurant alone.

I love to eat vegetables and hence when I saw this Kale dish, I couldn’t resist. My siblings  guessed I would order this dish and I did! This dish is stir-fried and the vegetables has been lightly marinated. It was quite nice but I wouldn’t order it again as it is quite pricey for the portion. I will learn to cook this at home instead as it is pretty straight-forward.

Kale Namul 케일나물 – $10

The next dish is Rabokki. It consist of tofu, instant noodles, fried rice cake and steamed rice cake. This dish is nothing to shout about but nice if you are craving for some korean rice cakes.

We also had Kimchi Pancakes. We were all really hungry and you could we most of the pieces were snatched up before I had a chance to take a photo. Sorry for the blurry photo. You can imagine the chaotic scene as everyone is reaching across each other trying to try all the dishes.

Kimchi Jeon 김치전 – $8

The last dish we had was the Japchae. It is simply sweet potato noodles fried with vegetables. Something like fried noodle in my opinion. I found it pretty normal.

We managed to finish all the food and ended up being very full. It was a fulfilling meal and my family was impressed that vegetarian food can actually taste so good. They couldn’t even tell there was no meat in the dishes. If you have not tried Korean vegetarian, I would definitely recommend all of you to give it a try.

We spent a total of $108 on the meal, which amounts to about $21.60/pax. I like that there is no GST and Service Charge.

Daehwa also had a sister restaurant called The Boneless Kitchen, located in Taiseng. Daehwa feels slightly more upmarket than The Boneless Kitchen. I guess they are targeting a different group of customers.

About Daehwa

Daehwa serves plant-based food with environmentally beneficial ingredients. They believe our choices of what we eat, where it comes from and how it’s prepared have a direct and powerful impact on the health of individuals, communities and the environment. Their website also says that they make their Kimchi and sauces from scratch. I also like how 40% of their crews are people with special needs. So do give them your support.

Let’s move towards a plant-based diet, eat less animals and save the earth.

Moments

“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
― A.A. Milne

It’s the moments that make up our lives. Some time back, I started a project called ‘Life’s Simple Moments’, to document simple moments in life and encourage people to slow down and be in the moment.

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here’s the collection. If you have any simple moments you would like me to illustrate, feel free to shout out in the comments box below! Enjoy 🙂

Simple moments never fail to fill me with gratitude and awe. Look at this list when you are feeling down or need some inspiration. I guarantee you will feel much better afterwards.

18 Thoughts Which Will Make You Think

img_9002

Here’s a compilation of thoughts and ideas I have gleaned from others and books through time. Enjoy!

  1. We all have a light within us. Our aura. Our goal is to live in such a way that when we leave, our light is shining brightly and clear. – What I Know for Sure, Oprah Winfrey
  2. What do YOU want? That’s the question. The rest is secondary. If you are still hesitating, you probably do not want it badly enough. Move on! – Robin Ten Buuren
  3. You do not have to be scared of someone who tries to learn many things. But be very afraid of someone who does one thing and do it 1000 times. Focus. –Danny Tan
  4. Be someone who can beat someone to a pulp but chooses not to. – Master lain
  5. It is about the process of continually seeking to be better, to challenge yourself to pursue excellence on every level, only when you make that process your goal can your dream life follow. That doesn’t mean your process will lead you to wealth or fame- in fact, your dream may have nothing to do with tangible prosperity and everything to do with creating a life filled with joy, one with no regrets and a clear conscience. While wealth is a tool that gives you choices- it can’t compensate for a life not fully lived, it certainly can’t create a sense of peace within you. The whole point of being alive is to become the person you were intended to be, to grow out of and into yourself again and again. – What I Know for Sure, Oprah Winfrey
  6. Stillness is the space where all creative expression, peace, light, and love come to be. Only from that space can you create your best work and your best life. – Oprah Winfrey
  7. When opportunities come, you must be fast to recognize it and grab it…if not you will miss it. If so, wait for the next one…there will always be more. – Ahmad
  8. Go deeper, not wider- Depth year- The joy and enrichment you could derive from a single musical instrument, or a set of paints, is enough to fill a lifetime, and many people have demonstrated that. But those deeper levels are effectively inaccessible without some limit to the splitting of your attention and interest. Going deeper requires patience, practice, and engagement during stretches where nothing much is happening. It’s during those moments that switching pursuits is most tempting. Newness doesn’t require much at all, except, sometimes, a bit of disposable income.- Oprah Winfrey
  9. Creation vs Consumption – Serenity Secrets
  10. Have a little intention and let go of the results. You are what you love and not what loves you.
  11. In the land of the blind, the one eye man is king
  12. The best time was yesterday, the next best time is now
  13. All successful living things must balance containment and permeability, rigidity and plasticity, persistence and adaptability, and space and boundaries. – Yoga Anatomy
  14. Like a wheel, a person needs to have good space at his or her center, or functional connections become impossible. – Yoga Anatomy
  15. Because exhalation is an action of removing waste from the system, another practical way of applying this insight is that if we take care of the exhalation, the inhalation takes care of itself. If we get rid of the unwanted, we make room for what is needed. – Yoga Anatomy
  16. The lips of the wise are shut, open only to the ears of understanding.
  17. Choose your battles wisely – just because you can doesn’t mean you have to.
  18. Probable vs possible- While everything is possible, some things are more probable than others, e.g. starting your own business vs landing on the moon.
